Founded in 2003 by Jay Gauldin after his honorable discharge from the Army, TBS Construction, LLC has been proudly serving the Greater Roanoke Valley, New River Valley and Smith Mountain Lake communities for over two decades. Jay Gauldin’s special operations military background instilled in him a strong work ethic, attention to detail and a dedication to service. These core values became the foundation of TBS Construction, LLC. Starting with small residential projects, Jay’s reputation for reliability and high standards quickly spread, allowing TBS to expand into larger residential and commercial construction projects. Over the years, TBS has successfully completed hundreds of projects ranging from docks, bridges, ready-mix concrete plants, multimillion dollar custom homes, restaurants and office buildings.

President, TBS Construction, LLC

John M. “Jay” Gauldin II is the President and owner of TBS Construction, LLC, a respected construction firm based in Moneta, Virginia. He’s also the owner of Elegant Exteriors by TBS, LLC which is an exteriors contractor.  With a background that blends military discipline, architectural expertise and hands-on building experience, Jay brings a unique, systematic and principled approach to his companies’ construction projects across Southwest and Central Virginia.

Military Background

• Jay is a 15-year veteran of the United States Army, where he served with honor and distinction. His time in the military instilled in him the values of integrity, discipline, leadership and a relentless work ethic—principles that continue to shape the culture and mission of TBS Construction today. His service taught him the importance of accountability, attention to detail and executing every task with precision—traits that have become the hallmark of his professional life.
• Jay has served in some of the most prestigious military organizations in the world as both a noncommissioned officer (NCO), as well as a commissioned officer.  These units include:
  • 7^th Special Forces Group (Airborne)
  • 1^st Ranger Battalion, 75^th Ranger Regiment
  • 2^nd Battalion, 504^th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), 82^nd Airborne Division
  • Joint Special Operations Command

Career & Education

• Jay began his career in construction by co-founding Gauldin, LLC alongside his father, focusing on residential projects. He later expanded his experience in Charlottesville, VA, working with an highly-respected, family-owned construction firm by the name of Martin Horn, on projects for the University of Virginia, CBS Rentals and other notable organizations and clients. During this time, Jay earned a Master’s degree in Architecture from Virginia Tech, further expanding his building expertise.
• Jay has also served as President of Piedmont Concrete Contractors, Inc., where he gained valuable leadership, knowledge and experience in the commercial concrete sector.
